Overview of US Federal Holidays

• Martin Luther King Jr. Day (3rd Monday in January)
  Commemorates Martin Luther King Jr., a prominent leader of the African-American civil rights movement.
• Presidents' Day (3rd Monday in February)
  Celebrates the birthdays of George Washington, the first president of the United States, and Abraham Lincoln, the president who issued the Emancipation Proclamation.
• Memorial Day (Last Monday in May)
  A day of remembrance for all military personnel who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces.
• Juneteenth
  Commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans following the end of the Civil War (1865).
• Independence Day
  Commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776.
• Labor Day (1st Monday in September)
  A day to honor and recognize the contributions of workers.
• Columbus Day (2nd Monday in October)
  Commemorates Christopher Columbus's arrival in the Americas (Note: It is not observed as a state holiday in many states, such as California and Hawaii).
• Veterans Day
  Originally established to commemorate the armistice of World War I (November 11, 1918). It is currently dedicated to honoring all military veterans.
• Thanksgiving Day (4th Thursday in November)
  Commemorates the first harvest celebrated by the Pilgrims, English immigrants who arrived in 1620.
