• Lunar New Year (Spring Festival)
  The New Year celebration based on the traditional lunar calendar.
• Ching Ming Festival
  A public holiday observing the spring solar term "Ching Ming," also known as Tomb-Sweeping Day.
• Good Friday & Holy Saturday
  Good Friday and the day following Good Friday are observed as public holidays to commemorate the trial, passion, and crucifixion of Jesus Christ.
• Easter Monday
  Celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ on the third day after his crucifixion.
• The Birthday of the Buddha
  Observed on the eighth day of the fourth lunar month to celebrate the birth of Gautama Buddha.
• Tuen Ng Festival (Dragon Boat Festival)
  Celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month. Hong Kong hosts some of the world's premier dragon boat races during this holiday.
• Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Establishment Day
  Commemorates the handover of sovereignty over Hong Kong from the United Kingdom to the People's Republic of China on July 1, 1997.
• National Day
  Commemorates the founding of the People's Republic of China on October 1, 1949.
• The Day Following the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival
  Because festivities traditionally extend late into the evening of the Mid-Autumn Festival, the day after the festival is designated as a public holiday.
• Chung Yeung Festival
  Observed on the ninth day of the ninth lunar month. Taking advantage of the autumn weather, it is traditional to go hiking or visit ancestral graves on this day.

Flag of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region

Hong Kong's official designation is the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China. Consequently, its official national flag is the "Five-star Red Flag" of China. However, Hong Kong's regional flag is widely flown and used locally. The flower featured at the center of the regional flag is the Bauhinia (Bauhinia blakeana).
