Overview of Public Holidays in Norway

Maundy Thursday
A holy day commemorating the Last Supper of Jesus Christ with his disciples. Also known as Holy Thursday, it commemorates the biblical event in which Jesus washed the feet of his disciples.
Good Friday, Easter Sunday, Easter Monday
Major Christian holidays honoring the central events of the faith. Good Friday commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, while Easter Sunday celebrates his resurrection three days later. Easter Monday, the day following Easter, is also observed as a public holiday in Norway and many other countries.
Constitution Day
Commemorates the signing of the Constitution of Norway on May 17, 1814. The Norwegian Constitution is the oldest written constitution in Europe still in continuous use.
Ascension Day
In Christian tradition, Ascension Day marks the bodily ascension of the resurrected Jesus Christ into heaven in the presence of his apostles. It is celebrated on the 40th day of Easter.
Pentecost
A Christian holiday commemorating the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles and disciples, an event recounted as occurring 50 days after the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Pentecost Monday (Day after Pentecost)
The day following Pentecost Sunday is observed as an official public holiday.
Midsummer
Although not an official public holiday, Midsummer celebrations take place across the country in late June to mark the summer solstice.

Norway's National Flag & Anthem

National Flag

The national flag of Norway features a blue cross outlined in white on a red field. The Nordic cross design originates from the Danish flag and represents Christianity, while the three colors together symbolize freedom.

National Anthem

The national anthem of Norway is "Ja, vi elsker dette landet" ("Yes, We Love This Country").
The lyrics express deep love for the homeland and a pledge to defend it in the pursuit of peace.
