Overview of New Zealand Public Holidays

Waitangi Day (National Day)
Commemorates the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi on 6 February 1840 between the British Crown and Māori chiefs, through which Great Britain gained sovereignty over New Zealand.
Good Friday, Easter Monday
Commemorates the crucifixion and the miracle of Jesus Christ's resurrection three days later.
Good Friday is a day of mourning for the death of Jesus. Easter is the celebration of the resurrection. The day after Easter (Easter Monday) is also observed as a public holiday in many countries.
Anzac Day
Originally established to honor the service of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) during World War I, it is now observed as a national day of remembrance for all casualties of war.
King’s Birthday (1st Monday in June)
Celebrates the birthday of the British Monarch. While King Charles III's actual birthday is on 14 November, official celebrations traditionally take place in June when the weather is more favorable.
Matariki
The Māori New Year based on the lunar calendar. The exact date on the calendar changes every year.

New Zealand Flag & National Anthem

National Flag

The national flag of New Zealand is a Blue Ensign featuring the Union Jack in the upper left hoist, alongside four red five-pointed stars edged in white representing the Southern Cross constellation. Officially adopted in 1902.

National Anthem

The national anthem of New Zealand is "God Defend New Zealand".
The core message of the lyrics is a prayer asking God to protect the nation from war, conflict, and strife.
